For many years the standard treatment to fix receding gums was a gum graft. The procedure, which involves removing tissue from the roof of the mouth and transferring it to the gums, involves incisions, stitching, and a recovery period of up to two weeks.
That probably sounds less than pleasant – and it is. At Fielder Park Dental we use an innovative treatment called the Chao Pinhole procedure to repair gum recession. Unlike a gum graft, there’s no need to remove any tissue. Our team simply uses special instruments to reposition tissue and cover your gums.
Watch our video to hear Dr. Mercer describe how it works: ”The pinhole surgical technique allows us to help gums that have experienced recession, and do a much less invasive technique where we’re not taking tissue out of the roof of the mouth, and we’re not having to do big incisions, and, typically, we’re not even having to do sutures. We have the graft material that goes underneath there, and our patients are experiencing very mild, minimal postoperative complications or discomfort.”
